Final drafts of all 3 products.

LIIAR evaluation of Final Draft.

L- I have made my magazine so that it is both conventional and unconventional, I have done this so that it will appeal to readers of other magazines as well as maybe focus on appealing to a newer audience.
I have stayed very close to the brief by using various images which I have taken myself I have also used different computer programmes to edit the images. The brief also stated that I must use a mid-shot on the front page of my magazine which I have done. The image which is used is also the same style of images which is used throughout the magazine and is the same band which is featured in the main article which I have featured on the double page spread of my magazine. Although I said that I was going to try different styles of shot when looking at making the magazine the mid-shot option did work the best for the front cover of the magazine as it gave more detail to the page.
I have made the pose of the model on the image on the front page look quite quirky in order to appeal to readers, I feel that because the artist on the front page isn't looking directly at the camera it gives the audience a sense of the unknown and they may not always know what to expect when they read the magazine. The angle of the image is also slightly to the side of the artist which makes the image look different to that which is conventionally used on the front cover of a magazine.
The black and white images also give the magazine quite a classy feeling as well as a rocky edge for the magazine which clashes with the brighter, younger colours used throughout the magazine, these two different style give my magazine something different and a different feeling which magazines may not all have.
The lighting which I have used for the image on the front cover of the magazine is also very bright as it gives a good contrast to black background and gives the images a look of higher quality as it stands out from the background much more. This also gives of a quirky feeling and makes the magazine look like it features alot more 'rocky'.
The anchorage on the page works well because it stands out from the black and white image on the page as well as the dark background, and because they are set in quite a large font and in a very bold colours.
I have Incorporated various different style of anchorage onto the front page of my magazine such as a banner headline, which stands out from the background because of the very bold colours which are used in it.  As well as this I have used a subsidiary cover line located in another banner style headline which is located at the top of the page. This also bring more colour onto the page.
I have used a continuous colour scheme throughout the magazine also because it gives the magazine a sense of continuity, which is important because it would make the magazine more appealing to the audience. I have used both darker colours as well as bright colours as it gives the magazine a Rockey yet different style, it is a simplistic colour scheme which I felt would work well together.
On the contents page which I have created I have used a consistent house style so that the magazine is more conventional to that of what magazines are usually like, I feel personally that this is important because it gives the magazine a more professional look. I have made it consistent by using the sames colour scheme and images style, this is a light image which has been made black and white to make it consistent with the other images, I have kept the page quite simple by using a simple style of font and image.  I have made the page numbers on the page slightly larger than the other text in order to give the page a sense of dynamics as well as making the page look slightly better.
I have separated the image at the top of the page and the page title from the rest of the page by using a banner style partition, I feel that this works well as it gives the page two separate parts.
I have again used this house style on the double page spread to give the magazine a style and consistency.
I have added in a colour image onto the page to give it a different style to the other pages and more colour so that it would stand out more the the audience, the larger black and white images which is used on the page is darker compared to that of the other photos which are used throughout the magazine as I chose to darken the contrast of the photo to make the image darker.
Other than these small differences I have kept the style of the pages consistent so that the magazine would look professional to the audience.
When creating the magazine I had various problems and different things which didn't work well when making it, I felt that the colour scheme which I originally chose was to bland and wouldn't attract people as it looked very plain, as well as many other things which went wrong, I tried to resolve these issues whilst making the magazine so that the magazine would be to a high standard.

I- I have created this magazine for a big magazine company, I have done this in order to appeal to a different audience which they do not appeal to already, I have made this seem believable by making the quality of the magazine quite high as well as making i look quite classy at the same time. I feel this is important as a large company would not make the magazine look shabby as they know that the magazine would not sell in large numbers.
I feel that this is the type of magazine who should distribute the magazine as using a large company to work with the magazine they are more likely to distribute the magazine in a wider way, which is important in order to attract a wide audience.

I- The morals of my magazine show the a different genre of music from the average ones can sell magazine and can be read about in a magazine, I feel that this is important because the readers of the magazine will not have been catered for generally because this is a new magazine and this genre of music has been included in magazine but not on a whole, which is important, as it is just included in some magazine.

A- I have used the front page of my magazine to appeal to the audience which I was going to appeal to by giving it a classy colour scheme but also included things which will appeal to the younger audience so that it will appeal new readers and readers from other magazine and both young and old generations.
I have represented the genre in a good way in order to keep the magazine appealing to the audience.
My magazine represents different social groups because it includes various different information which will appeal to different social groups, this is important in order to make the magazine appeal to a wider audience.

R- I have used the front cover to represent various bands which are included on the magazine front page, such as the band which I have come up with for my magazine specifically as well as other bands which I have decided to include in the magazine, the magazine represents the artists because it talks about them on the page. This is an important aspect when getting readers interested in reading the magazine as if there is no artists which they like in the magazine they will choose not to read this magazine.
I have also represented the genre of music which i have chosen to base my magazine around in a positive way in the magazine, this will also make the magazine appeal to the correct audience I have done this by representing various different groups of people throughout the magazine.

Other Notes- Whilst making this magazine I have learnt alot about different technologies not only the types which are used to make the magazine but other technologies which magazine companies use in order to get a wider audience for there magazine.
I have learnt alot about programmes such as photo shop, this was an important programme when making the magazine as it is the programme which was used to put the magazine together. I learnt various things about the programme such as how to change various different photographic elements such as the contrast and the brightness of an image as well as how to put things together in order to make them look good in a layered fashion.
I feel that since I have completed the preliminary task my skills on programmes such as photo shop as well as the depth of detail into which I planned the magazine has improved and the quality of my magazine has improved compared to that of the previous task.

New & Final Draft of Double Page Spread.

In order to make sure the double page spread of the magazine go with the new layout and house style of the magazine I decided to also make slight alterations to this page.
I made sure that I included some white in order to make sure that the page went with the new housestyle of the magazine.
I also changed the image so that it was both of the members of the band on the main article so that the audience would be able to notice that it was more about that band than just the specific figure. I also felt that the two images at the side of the page made the page fare to cluttered and now that there was just one long shot image on the page the page looked alot better.
This is the newer final draft of the magazine:

New & Final draft of Content Page

I have changed various element in the contents page as well. I have made various element in the contents page such as the text white so that it went more with the front page. I also changed the various lines which were on the page so that they went with the cover lines on the front of the magazine.
I have also changed the image so that it goes with the other images which are used throughout the magazine.

New & Final Draft of Front Page

After looking at my magazine and finding various possible changed which could be made I decided to again make another draft, I found that the masthead text needed to be made alot larger so it took up alot more of the top area of the page, I also decided to change the colour of the masthead so that it stood out more from the dark background of the page. I felt that white would be a good colour to use as it was very different from all the other colours which had been used on the page.
I also added various other cover lines so that this again took up more of the page. and made the magazine more realistic, i also felt that it would make it appeal to the audience more as it would tell the audience what was in the magazine therefore would appeal more.
I moved various element on the page also such as the banner headline because it made more room for the various things which had been added into the page.
I also neatened the editing of the image and made the edges of it alot neater.

Final Drafts of all 3 products.

Changes to Double Page spread

I have decided that I am going to change the double page spread again as I feel the word 'exclusive' on the page could be changed.
I have decided to make it verticle and slightly larger to make it stand out from the other elements on the page more.

Audience Feedback about DEFinitive Magazine

I asked various people around the college 5 simple questions about how well they felt the my magazine worked, I thought it was important to find out some audience feedback so that if they could see any faults with the magazine they could give me constructive criticism about the magazine and I could improve the various elements in the magazine which the audience which is most likely to read my magazine felt needed to be changed.
I asked 2 random people from around the college about what they thought worked well with the magazine and what needed to be improved, here is the feedback which they gave me:

Participant 1
Is this a type of magazine that you would consider reading?
I don't see why not, it looks quite interesting and the bands which seem to be featured are all bands which are in fact in my personal music library and the featured stories do look interesting.

Do you think the colours which are used throughout the magazine work well together?
Yes, they seem to bring out the best from the images as they are very sharp and un-pixelated and work well on the black background, the idea of using some coloured images throughout the magazine whilst the majority of the photos are black and white works well and the idea of the small areas of colour on a dark background works well.

Are the images the type of images which you feel you would generally find in a magazine?
Indeed, I think the quality and the style of the images is simple yet effective, although some more colour photos on the pages would have made the magazine stand out a little more.

Does the text on the front cover of the magazine stand out from the images?
The banner style headline on the page works well, and the colours of the text make it stand out from the black and white image and black background, but if I would criticise you for anything I would say more text needs to be added to the front page.

Is the contents page interesting to look at?
Yes I like that it stands out from the other pages because of the red border style thing. It is effective and definitely works well. Also the difference in the size of the page numbers to the text works well because it gives the audience something to look at.

Participant 2
Is this a type of magazine you would consider reading?
The music which is involved isn't really well but it does look quite interesting.

Do you think the colours which are used throughout the magazine work well together?
Yes although some brighter colours would maybe appeal to me more as it would make the magazine alot more interesting to look at. But the simpleness of the colour scheme does work well.

Are the images the type of images which you feel you would generally find in a magazine?
Yes, they are a good quality of image, but I feel it is usually more conventional to use coloured images but this style makes the magazine slightly different from others and more unique.

Dose the text on the front cover of the magazine stand out from the images?
Yes, but more text would make the page look more appealing and interesting as it would introduce more colour onto the page.

Is the contents page interesting to look at?
Yes, the different styles on the page work well together and the colours and styles of image work well for what they are meant to do on the page, I also like that the page has been cut in half in a way because of the separation of the text and the image at the top of the page.

Over all, I feel that my magazine works well although I feel that I should maybe consider adding in various things too it, such as more text on the front page of the magazine so that it is more colourful.

How would I promote my magazine?

In order to get more and more readers to become interested in my magazine, this is essential in order to get the highest possible readership figure as well as profit. In order for the magazine to become well known advertising is necessary so that people know about the magazine and what it has to offer.
To advertise the website I would do various things such as marketing campaigns which would include various things such as advertisements on both the web as well as the television.
In order for the magazine to appeal to the people who see the advertisements it must be advertised in the correct places in order for the magazine to appeal to the same people. To do this you would advertise the magazine in such places as music websites or channels on the television which play the type of music which is shown in the magazine, this would be on channels such as the NME channel, although NME do have there own magazine this magazine is for a specific genre of music which the NME magazine will only cover briefly as the magazine covers so many different type's of music. It would also work well if it was advertised on channels which get a wide range of viewers, such as ITV so that it is seen widely, not just by the audience which is necessary for the magazine but for everyone, so that the word about the magazine will get out and more and more people will be aware of the magazine.
Another way in which the magazine could be advertised it by making online versions of the magazine such as a website and an iPod/iPhone application this could work well in order to advertise the magazine as Internet use is so widely used. I feel that these two options would be very good in order to get the word out about the magazine, although the magazine website would have to be quite similar to the magazine it wouldn't contain some of the exclusives which the magazine included in order to keep the readership of the magazine up, this is important also so that the magazine will make a profit as the website will be free.
Another way in which i could promote my magazine is to make the magazine its own twitter page, this will mean that various people from across the world will be able to follow the magazine and find out about various updates on both the Internet and on mobile devices.

Another Draft Of Double Page Spread

After looking at the double page spread again I realised that I had included the same picture twice in the magazine, one on the contents page and again on the double page spread, I also felt that if I changed this image putting more colour into the page would make it look alot more welcomeing to the audience, So i then deleted the new image which I had added onto the page and added in a newer image which was colour which made the page look alot more colourful and went with the other elements of the page alot better, this is the new version of the double page spread:

Final Draft of Double Page Spread

I felt that although there was alot of information included on the 2nd draft of the double page spread and it did look quite alot better than the previous drafts I felt that it needed gto include more images so that the page had more elements, this is the draft which I have come up with:

3rd Draft of Double Page Spread

I felt htat when i had completed the second draft of my double page spread for my magazine that there were various elements missing from the page. I felt that the page needed slightly more colour on it. So i then added some more text to the page. As well as a separator between the image and the text. This is the final product:

2nd Draft of Double Page Spread

I have made a 2nd draft of my double page spread so that more improvements can be made, i have taken out one of the images on the page as i felt that it looked out of place on the page so know i have one large image. I have added in the text onto the page and included to magazines new colour scheme so that it will match all the way through the magazine. This is the end product:

New Draft of Contents Page

Because I made a new draft of my Front cover I also needed to make various changes to my contents page in order to make the house style throughout the pages consistent. I need to remove and add various different aspects to the page as well as change the colour of various elements so that the contents page is consistent with the style of the new front page.
I took the small photo which was a part of the page off, as i felt that it didn't quite go with the images which  I felt that magazine would look best with. And because I personally feel that the magazine's style is important in order to appeal to the reader.
I also changed various pieces of text on the page red so that it would fit in with the front cover as well as adding a separator between the image on the page and the various text at the bottom page so that the page was more spaced out and separated the page slightly.
I also added various bursts of colour around the outside of the page so that the colour wasn't as dark and stood out alot more. This is the contents page in which I have altered:

New draft of Front Cover.

When I revisited the front cover of my music magazine I decided that I felt it could be improved alot more. I felt that more colour needed to be added to the page so that it was more likely to stand out from various other music magazines. Also I felt that various other elements on the front page needed to be changed. For example the images quality of the image which had been used was very poor quality and the pose which was used could be improved alot more. I decided to use a similar style of image which would work better for the page. Although it has less people in the image I felt that this drew more attention to the page. Also the pose in which the artist in the shot was doing was alot more interesting compared to that of the previous image which had been used.
I also resolved the issues of the lacking of color on  the page by adding another color into the color scheme which I had chosen to use. This colour was red. I felt that this would work well along side the other main colour orange as well as the other dark colours which I have used throughout the magazine.
I also felt that for the masthead to stand out slightly more it should be separated from the various other elements on the page so i used a bold orange line in order to separate this. I also made the word 'UNPLUGGED' alot larger and made it red so that it would also stand out. I also moved this to the top of the word 'DEFinitive' so that the masthead as a whole would work alot better and would be alot more noticeable.

Third draft of Text for Double page spread.

When i had then completed the second draft of the text which i planned to include on the double page spread of my magazine I felt that although all of the various gramatical errors had been changed, it should contain more writing so that it would fill up the page alot more.
These are the changes which I have made:

Q. Welcome, how does it feel to be currently working on your debut album?
A. It feels brilliant. We got signed so quickly that its all seems like such a daze. Were just happy to be here

Q. Do you write all your own songs or do you have certain song-writers which you generally get to write for you?
A. We have always written our own music and plan on continuing to do so. It seems like we've come this far doing out own thing and it would be sad to see it all change now we have got this far.

Q. Brilliant, Do you enjoy recording?
A. Yeah of coarse, we cant wait to get the album out so that all of our fans can here all of our newest additions, then after this come the best bit, Touring!

Q. Which out of the 18 songs on your album do you prefer?
A. Well I think personally it depends on who you ask, because we all play different instruments some songs are more enjoyable to play for one of us than the other. because i sing, i enjoy each of the songs because I get a chance to play a big role in each of them.

Q. Are you planning a tour?
A. Of coarse, its were we started out, doing small gigs in Hull. We love gigging, I mean what band doesn't the feeling you get from a crowd of people enjoying your music is just ace! I think we are planning to tour next summer. Maybe we will even get chance to do a few festivals in the summer which would be brilliant! Performing something like Leeds/Reading fest would probably be the highlight of the year!

Q. I'm sure your fans cannot wait! Is there any particular artist you would really enjoy performing with?
A. There is plenty, someone we have always admired is Laura Marling, and with her up and coming tour next year, we are hoping she would want us to perform at one of her shows with her.

Q. Oooh, we here at Definitive love Laura Marling! Would you say you'd like to become bigger in the near future?
A. Definately the more fans we get the better. Not only does it seem like we've gone from playing small venues with audiences of about 20 people, it seems like we get recognised a lot more on the street these days, it's so odd!

Q. That can never be bad, I'm sure you'll be signing a fair few autographs as it is?
A. Yeah we are, its mad! It doesn't even feel like we have been signed for long, never mind fans screaming at us every way in which we turn.

Q. Nothing better than popularity! Anyway thanks for visiting the team here at Definitive, we hope to see you again soon!
A. Oh no worries thank you for having us, I'm sure we will be back very soon!
